Popcorn Paradise: fevereiro 2009

O tema é complicado e actual, o guião vem na sequência de uma peça vencedora de um Pulitzer e o elenco tem nomes como Meryl Streep e Philip Seymour Hoffman. Era, portanto, imperdível. Ainda mais depois de anunciadas as nomeações para os Óscars, onde figuravam os quatro actores principais do filme.
As expectativas em relação aos actores não defraudaram. É, de facto, um quarteto de respeito. Meryl Streep e Philip Seymour Hoffman fazem o habitual diluir de personalidade na personagem. Não se vê o método, não se percebe a técnica, descobrem-se duas pessoas diferentes dos actores que todos conhecemos. Soberbo, como sempre. A descoberta de Amy Adams no papel de doce irmã chega para perceber que ela não precisa do Óscar tão cedo. Outros papéis virão e ela não terá medo de os agarrar. Viola Davis aparece cinco minutos no ecrã e deixa uma impressão indelével. Sempre em contra-cena com Maryl Streep, a actriz consegue levar-nos numa breve viagem ao cerne de um drama familiar intenso e insuspeito. Espero ver mais desta actriz com A grande.
O guião é clean, bem escrito, com a fundamentação cabal de todas as motivações das personagens introduzida subtilmente. Não se pode dizer que seja surpreendente ou que a sua história chegue para mudar uma vida, mas é suficiente, seguramente, para levantar algumas questões e motivar alguma reflexão. Na subtileza do teatro terá, no entanto, funcionado melhor do que nos close ups do grande ecrã.
E os pontos positivos do filme ficam por aqui. A realização é chata e sensaborona, a banda sonora ajuda a que o espectador que sai do trabalho directamente para o cinema acabe por soltar uns bocejos e a cinematografia passa despercebida em imagens banais… Mas de que outra forma poderia ser filmada uma obra sobre dúvida passada no seio de um rígido colégio católico se não com reverências, cânticos litúrgicos, pausas e silêncios?
